i started working on r_e_c_u_r originally because i wanted a p10 but couldnt afford one lol.
the speed /direction control of clips is one feature that i tried but mostly failed to replicate… im curious how long clips can be in p10 ? because the only way i could get this to work on rpi was by loading all the frames into memory, and this meant an upper bound of around 1-3minutes (could prob go longer if using the lower resolution that p10 takes but anyway )
i agree the r_e_c_u_r case is a hassle to print, and that the p10 looks like a nicer interface. there were plans to update the enclosure to make it easier. but tbh current r_e_c_u_r project is mainly deprecated - hasnt had any major updates in couple years. i will still make a few changes to that version, but now am working towards a new rpi4 instrument instead. with a focus on intuitive interface over feature saturation
but still i use my r_e_c_u_r at every show i play. it is extremely powerful if you can get your head around operating it. my interface setup uses a korg nanokontrol. looks something like this ( i dont actually use the i_n_c_u_r extension circuit w cv/pots pictured here for anything much )
i have a p10, there’s actually an old mac version of the conversion software floating around somewhere, google it and I’m sure you’ll find it. it’s kind of a pain to use, have to convert files one at a time, rather than a batch. i tried my best to get the ffmpeg settings right, but the p10 seemed like it was looking for something very specific and would never load the files I converted. let me know if you figure it out!

What’s the white board you have your pi screen on with Composite out? If you sold little printed kits or something with better form-factor on etsy I’d be there just one to buy em. With the capture dongle, rca out, and nanoKontrol mine looks like a squid and I can’t keep my desk in order hahaha.
Thanks! I found the old Mac app, but unfortunately it doesn’t run on newer versions of OSX. I have an older laptop that I can use, but would be nice to find a longer term solution. I’ll keep experimenting and report back if I figure it out!
Hi all. I have had the P-10 for a while and it is such a fun little box/sampler. Regarding the length of the video you are only limited by the storage on the SD card. Regarding getting videos in to the proper format I have been using this software Movavi (I think there is a free version) and it works great and you can drop the file directly onto the SD card. Just need to assign them to a pad once you put the card back in the P-10. Here is a short demo I did of it to emphasize its real time features/effects.
…i used some 7-and-a-half minutes clips yesterday with the P10 (almost 600MB in P-10-file-format-size) without any problems…
…regarding the file-conversion (since yesterday) i use a 55€ ‚free‘ converter from Wondershare to convert to AVI (in much higher resolution than the P-10) and then feed the resulting file to the Windows-P-10-utility under Parallels on a current (Intel-) iMac…

Let me double check since I switched computers. I think I started converting the files direct to AVI and dropping them on the SD card and bypassing the converter.
UPDATE: Export the video out of Movavi as 640x480 AVI. Then use the converter and it should load onto the SD card. After the SD card is back in the P-10 assign it to a pad. Just tested this out now and it still works.
I at some point figured out a short cut to avoid the converter but that isn’t working for me anymore and I can’t remember exactly what I did.
Any update to the settings? I am having the same trouble getting files in the correct format. Also, what version of the Movavi Software are you using? Mac or PC? Hope you can help.
I am on a MAC using Movavi v23.0.1, I have tried a ton of settings but to no luck.
Did you ever figure anything out? Im trying to convert files to work on the P-10… Only way I can get anything to work is to use the Composite input on the P-10 and just Record the input directly to the device.
I also use a P-10 and love it so much, other than the file issues…
If anyone knows a solution that can generate P-10 compatible Motion JPEG file on the latest macOS, please let me know.

Hey all. Just tested this again and works fine. Here is what I am using hardware and software. Hope this helps.
Convert the video using Movavi and then drop it into the P-10 Image Coverter Light. This takes a few minutes depending on the file size. Once done put the SD card back into the P-10. Find an empty pad and then scroll through files to load the clip onto that pad.
I have finally worked this out on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) running Big Sur 11.6.8 if anyone needs to know… I am using a virtual machine through Parallels. And… My brain is J-E-L-L-O…
First, Download the “P-10 Image Converter Light” Application.
(file should be called p10_imageconverterlite101_mac.zip)
Next, Download the OS install from Apple. I used El Capitan but am setting up a second virtual machine with High Sierra since that is what @IOM is using. El Capitan seems to be kind of unstable in Parallels, High Sierra might be unstable as well, not sure yet. Double click the OS “.dmg” you downloaded and then double click the “.pkg” in the window that opens. Follow the prompts, this will add a file to your Applications folder on the mac called “Install OS X El Capitan” This is what Parallels will need to see to install the Virtual Machine.

Also, I bought the “One time Payment” Basic Parallels which might be why it doesn’t run Great. I AM SO SICK OF SUBSCRIPTION$$$$$$!!!
Once the Virtual Machine (VM) was up and running I copied the P-10 Converter Software directly into the Apps Folder. Then, Insert the SD card you use in your P-10 to the computer making sure it shows up in the VM. The SD card needs to already be formatted by the P-10 and working on the P-10. I use a 32Gb card but had to go through a bunch of different ones to find one that worked with the device. In the P-10 Converter Software Select the SD Card. From here I just dragged and dropped all the files I wanted converted at once and they were converted and loaded directly on the P-10 SD card. Once you put the SD card back in the P-10 all the files should be ready to assign to the Numeric PAD!!! Wahooo!!!
Make sure you Install “Parallel Tools” after setting up the Virtual Machine as it appears to be the tool to let you Copy and Paste files between the VM and your Native OS.
Looking to purchase a P-10 but don’t want to buy hardware I can’t use.
I tried following your VM path, but mac wont let me download High Sierra or older to use with Parallels on my mac which is running Monterey 12.1
Curious if anyone else has work arounds for finding a copy of High Sierra or any other work arounds for getting P-10 converter to work, or a if a converter like Adobe Media Encoder. Can be a work around.
Do you NEED P-10 Image Converter in order for the SD card to recognize the file?
Just noting that I tried a bunch of things to convert videos for the P-10 and got sick of it. It was a total faff.
However… What I didn’t realise was that the sampling portion of the P-10 is excellent. Now I simply feed in the video I want to import to the P-10 via composite and record it to a pad. Getting the start and end times can be a bit tricky, but otherwise it is so much faster to do it that way.
