Edirol V-8 Bricked (E00)

Hey! I’ve managed to ‘brick’ my Edirol V-8 by accidentally going into the midi update system menu. It powers on, but now only displays E00 on the display, there is no video output and I can’t access the menu.

I can still access the midi update system, however, I don’t have a SysEx file to upload. Does anyone happen to know if one exists, and if so, where I could download it please?

Thanks!

The V8 manuals may have a factory reset button combination.

Thanks! I’ve tried the reset button inputs but unfortunately it still goes straight to E00.

I originally messaged @Cat_Full_of_GHOSTS via Etsy as I thought he might be able to point me in the right direction and he pointed me here

I’ve been able to access the midi update boot loader again but I think I need a valid firmware SysEx file which I’m struggle to find online.

It seems like the midi update clears the current firmware before trying to update, but without a firmware I’m now stuck.

@RootNotez thanks for linking to the Kickstarter, backed!

…sorry, i do not have time to read up on this at the moment, but if there is anything that you find which would allow me to export the firmware from my V-8 to a SYSEX-file i can send you i’d be happy to help you with this…

…i guess you have already tried the Wayback-Machine (link to V-8 specific content):

Thank you, I’ve tried looking into this. I know there is a way to dump V-8 settings into a SysEx file but I don’t think there is a way to do it with the firmware but I’ll keep digging.

I have, no luck unfortunately. I think firmwares were stored in something called “Service Net” which I believe was for authorised technicians only and not publicly available.

It’s a long shot but I’ve even contacted Roland to see if they have the firmware in their achieves and if they’d be able to send me it if so. I don’t expect they will, but figured it was worth asking.

UPDATE: Roland replied and sent the firmware. My V-8 is working again - I can’t believe they still had the firmware and were willing to send it to me.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I was gonna say, Roland usually give out the OS files, they have done so for me in the past too, for a way older 1980s synth. They made mistakes in that OS at the time, and were still honouring the work, and sending out Eprom chips to users via the postal service.

should we upload a copy here and archive it?

Yeah, I have both the V-4 and V-8 firmwares now too. I’ll upload them both here tomorrow when I’m at my PC.

This site DBWBP.com - Synthesizer ROM archive
has a great resource of synth, workstation, sampler eprom files.
(I add here as a useful reference)

you can also just ask Roland; they will send them you!

Hi. Are you still planning to upload the V-8 firmware here (or somewhere?). I reached out to Roland to obtain it myself, just in case I ever need it, but they’re pushing back for some reason.
