Trying to setup a few different video synths and have some question about routing and cables. I currently have a korg kaptivator and ipad going into a roland v4ex (channels 3 and 4, respectively). The ipad connection is not stable so maybe a problem with the adapter. Anyone tried connecting an iPad to the v4ex with hdmi? I also built the VSERPI with waaave pool and can include this as a the second channel. Channel 1 is for analog feedback. If I can get the ipad more stable, this is pretty good. But I was also interested in exploring the possibility of running everything from the roland v4ex into the VSERPI waaave pool and hopefully recording into it. I have a 32 gb sd card in the raspberry pi 3B where waaave pool is running from. Is it possible to record performances directly into the sd card? If not, what is the optimal way to record performances with this setup? Maybe I just need one camera capture adapter (bought an elgato cam link 4k but didn’t try this yet). I would like to have at least one webcam for the visuals but I understand that waaave pool can only run hdmi or from the camera, not both.
Hi @Sahasra, you can always capture the full output from the Roland with one of this. I use the RCA version of the device and works fine even capturing a two hours session. I also use it as a portable tiny preview screen. This way you wont’ collapse the RPi with processing and capturing at the same time.
i agree that a dedicated capture box can be nice like @xose mentioned. i personally use a computer but i don’t love that all the time so sometimes i borrow a recorder.
re: the ipad thing, is the ipad usb-c or lightning? the lightning to hdmi converters were notoriously finicky, low powered, and compressed the signal. usb-c is a bit better because it doesn’t need active conversion to get HDMI, but i am not sure how robust it would be in a live setup either. also, channel 4 on the v4ex is the only channel that has the ability to downscale a signal (which is likely why you are using it for the ipad?) but i have found that on mine, the downscaler starts to get stuttery if i feed it a really super high detail signal. i usually notice quickly and adjust to fix it, but i have been looking for a better converter system for hdmi<->component (or composite) for this reason.
Thank you! very interesting. After a bit of digging, I found another one called EZCAP 776 that seems to also capture video. Could be useful when I don’t have a laptop nearby.
Thank you for the reply Paloma! I use the usb c but I think it might just be a bad adapter, but if you are also noticing the signal stuttering, it may be that I am also just feeding it too much. I will do a bit more experimenting with it and let you know if I find a stable fix. ![]()
The website only had an inquiry memo box. Can these be purchased anywhere else?
Sorry for that. There’s exactly where I purchased my UR230A. Videos on my channel are all recorded whith it out of a V4 at minimum 4mb/s bitrate and upscaled on the same device then posted with no edit. Just for you to check the not sooo good but for me, acceptable quality for 90€
