This is a really nice one I jsut learned about, that runs on Atari ST/Steem:

PSYCHO - MIDI Psychedelic Picture Modulator.

Freeware - med resolution only. Steem compatible.
With PSYCHO you are able to create your psychedelic videos by colour modulating low resolution pictures ( Neochrome and Degas ) with MIDI commands or by a preprogrammed script… For example, you can strobe colours by NOTE or CHANNEL. Rotate colours with MIDI CLOCK. And change pictures with PROGRAM CHANGE. Effects and picture combinations are set by a powerful 200 line script based control system allowing real-time improvisation or preset movie. This version of PSYCHO now has capacity to store 64 (4 meg hard disk), 32 (2 meg hard disk), 16 (1 meg) or 8 (1/2 meg) pictures. The program is now equipped with 30+ mind-warping effects, and is controlled by a 200 line script. PSYCHO-MOVIE can be run from internal or external MIDI control ( a controller with MIDI clocks is considered essential ). Pictures and script can now be saved separately.

Downloadable on Tim’s Atari MIDI World under the name Psychedelic Movie Maker.

I haven’t tried it yet but I assume it will run under emulation (ideally on a Raspberry Pi 3b+), and it sounds like it would still be pretty useful.
