Video Tech Designs 'Title Generator' VTG228 Plus power supply advise

Hello there. New member here, just getting into video feedback. Arrived here after discovering AllMyFriendsAreSynths on Youtube (love your work @amfas !).

Recently picked up a loverly VTG228 Plus Title Generator by Video-Tech Designs (after seeing one in Stephen’s videos), to add to my signal path in a document-camera-feedback-loop-interactive-art-thingy that I’m putting together for gigs at a venue I work at.

The Titler came without a power supply (although it came with an astonishingly well written manual, which I can upload if anyone needs a copy; so much valuable info in there) and I’m having a hard time sourcing a suitable 10 Volt replacement. The manual does state that the supply should be 10V DC with “Max ripple 1V p-p”, power consumption of 3oomA.

I’ve had it running for a few hours on a 9V power adaptor without any apparent issues, but I’m worried about potential damage from running it at this slightly lower voltage for extended periods; it’s likely to be running all day at gigs.

Here’s the crux of my question: Has anyone been running one of these on a 9V supply for a while, and has anyone run into any problems with this approach?

Thanks for taking time to read my rather lengthy question!

…welcome!…

…yes, please - i think i have the unit (one or two) somewhere, but i am sure i do not have the manual for it…

…sorry that i cannot contribute anything useful to your question - i am not sure that i have a PSU for it and i have not used it yet (amongst other reasons perhaps due to the lack of documentation - great excuse  )…

Not knowing the circuit, it’s hard to say. But I wouldn’t leave it underpowered all day. If it has a regulator on the power input, you could get away with a 12V supply.

Otherwise I see a few 10VDC 300mA supplies on eBay. Might have to go international. But you should be safe with something like 500mA, in case that’s easier to find. Just make sure the supply says DC.

Thanks for the welcome @fairplay

I will endeavour to get the manual uploaded as soon as I can, there are so many great features on this device that I don’t think you’d discover without actually reading it!

Thanks for your response @jglinis, that’s valuable information, cheers

Hiya. Thanks for the kind words!

I am almost certain that I don’t run mine with a 10v adapter, as they are difficult to find, and I haven’t had any issues.
